T-Shirt Bags Wholesale: Choosing Size, Gauge and Print by the Case
The quick answer
Wholesale T-shirt bags are bought by the case of 1,000. Choose the size to suit your typical basket, the thickness (mil) to suit the weight, and the print to suit your store. JiaroPack's T-shirt bags are 11.5 x 6.5 x 21 in and 0.47 mil, and stock prints ship at the standard case price, so the print you choose does not change your cost per bag.
What you are buying when you buy T-shirt bags
T-shirt bags are the thin plastic carryout bags with handles used at checkout in convenience stores, delis, grocery shops and restaurants. They are sold by the case, and the number of bags in the case is large: 1,000 on the JiaroPack range. The more cases you order at once, the lower the price per bag.
Pack counts and cost per bag
The range on our T-shirt bags collection is a single size and thickness, 11.5 x 6.5 x 21 in at 0.47 mil, 1,000 bags to a case. Here is how the case price converts to cost per bag, using the prices listed on October 19, 2026.
| Order | Price per case | Bags | Cost per bag |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 case | $30 | 1,000 | 3.0¢ |
| 4 cases | $29 | 4,000 | 2.9¢ |
| 12 cases | $27 | 12,000 | 2.7¢ |
| 24 cases | $25 | 24,000 | 2.5¢ |

Size: how to read 11.5 x 6.5 x 21
Plastic carryout bag sizes are written as width x side gusset x height in inches. An 11.5 x 6.5 x 21 in bag is 11.5 inches wide, with 6.5 inches of fold on the sides, and 21 inches tall. The side gusset is what lets the bag open up and hold a bottle, a box or a sandwich container rather than lie flat.
If most of your customers buy a few items at a time, one bag size is usually enough. If you sell a mix of small items and larger orders, consider a second size, or pair T-shirt bags with paper bags with handles for larger or gift purchases.
Gauge: what 0.47 mil means
Gauge is the thickness of the plastic film, measured in mil (one mil is a thousandth of an inch). A thicker bag costs more and carries more. At 0.47 mil, JiaroPack's T-shirt bags are a lightweight checkout bag: right for typical retail items, not for heavy loads.
- For lighter baskets, a single bag is fine.
- For heavier or sharp-cornered items, ask your cashiers to double-bag or split the load into two bags.
- For gifts and heavier purchases, use a paper bag with handles. JiaroPack lists its twisted-handle kraft bags as holding up to 10 lb.
We do not publish a load rating for the T-shirt bags, so test one with your heaviest typical item before you buy a full case.
Print: which message to choose
The print is on the surface of the bag. It is independent of the film and thickness, so it does not make the bag stronger or weaker. The range includes:
| Colors | Best for | |
|---|---|---|
| "Thank You" | White, black, blue, green | General retail and food stores |
| "Thank You" bilingual (English and Spanish) | One color | Stores with Spanish-speaking customers |
| Happy smiling face | White | Delis, bodegas and convenience stores |
| Plain, no print | Black, grey | Stores that want a neutral bag |
Stock prints ship at standard case pricing, with no setup cost or minimum print run. Custom wording is different: it has its own minimum order and production lead time. Our guides to choosing a printed message and the smiley face bag go deeper on the choice.
How many cases do you need?
Count your transactions, multiply by the bags you use per transaction, and divide by 1,000. For example, a convenience store with 300 transactions a day that uses 1.2 bags per transaction goes through about 360 bags a day, or around 10,800 a month. That is about 11 cases a month. (This is an illustrative example.)
Order enough to reach a lower price tier, but keep storage in mind: a case holds 1,000 bags, so 12 cases is a lot of space.
T-shirt bags or paper bags?
Plastic is generally cheaper per bag and performs better with moisture. Kraft paper reads as a step up in quality. Many stores use both. Our guide to choosing paper over plastic at checkout compares them, and our sizing guide covers small and large bags.
Common mistakes
- Comparing price per case. Compare cost per bag and the thickness.
- Overbuying one print. Order a case of a new print before you commit to many.
- Assuming the print changes strength. It does not.
- Skipping the weight test. A 0.47 mil bag is a lightweight bag.
- Forgetting storage. Plan shelf space before you pick a tier.
